I’ve been immersed in the IT world for the past 28 years. My tech journey started as a young entrepreneur on a mission to cut marketing costs way back in the mid-90s. Picture this: I was shelling out $10,000 for mailing lists, printing brochures, and sending out mass mailings, only to get a measly 1% response rate. Ouch. Talk about razor-thin profit margins!
Discouraged by these traditional marketing methods, I was on the hunt for a more effective and budget-friendly solution. Remember when the internet was in its infancy? Corporate email addresses were a rarity, and dial-up reigned supreme. But sensing a major shift on the horizon, I grabbed an HTML book from the library and started hand-coding a website in my spare time. Let me tell you, the thrill of seeing a little bit of effort and late-night coding translate into real business results was incredible.
I then added a Paradox database and some Winfax tweaks to the mix, enabling me to send out personalized fax blasts. Not only did this slash my costs significantly, but it also dramatically increased my response rates. (Those were the Wild West days of fax broadcasting when the rules were a bit hazy!)
From that moment on, I was hooked! The power of technology to revolutionize businesses had me completely captivated. And the tech industry has certainly come a long way since those early days. While countless technologies have emerged and disappeared, the pace of innovation shows no signs of slowing down.
Throughout my career, I’ve been lucky enough to accumulate a wealth of technical knowledge. But what truly gets me excited is finding innovative ways to harness technology and solve real-world business problems.
